Evergreen Residence

After Matt and Janet Stern relocated from their 6500 square-foot historic mansion, they moved to the Evergreen Residence, a small, simple property. The Sterns wanted a place that would reflect their commitment to the environment and sustainable building practices. They wanted a well-insulated, low-maintenance home that would allow them to age in place. A major requirement was to have light and airy rooms with high ceilings. As these conditions are seldom found in historic homes within desired walking distance of shops and the market, a compact addition was built to meet all their wishes. The existing home was melded seamlessly into the addition.

The complicated road to simplicity”. This quote, painted on a small wooden sign, was a gift to the studio from Matt and Janet Stern when they completed their eight-year quest for a new home.
